Typically those that play World of Warcraft will have more than one character that they play. Some guilds and players find it helpful to be able to share information about their characters, their respective levels and stats, and keep that contained within the signature of their forum postings. ToonSig offers a sleek, compact signature that presents and formats information from the World of Warcraft armory database.
All you need to know is your character's name, the realm name (the name of the server on which you play), and what zone you're in (US or EU). After keying in that information, you will be presented with a preview of what your signature could look like. You can change themes (the background image), and select different text display options for the middle and right columns of the signature. By default, the preview loads your talent settings in the middle, and loads your two main professions on the right top and bottom display. To change out the text in the middle or right columns, click tab number 2 to customize the values in your signature. You can even create your own custom text in the middle slot (limit 25 characters).
After you've selected the options you want for your signature, assign a password to that signature and click the generate button. You will see a brief advertisement (help support us and click on the ad), and then are redirected to a page that will show your final signature and how to link to it in forums and websites. That's it!
Although no account is necessary to create your own signatures, registering an account (for free) allows you to easily manage your signatures with just a few clicks.
If you've "dinged" and have increased a few levels or your stats have changed with better gear that you've acquired, naturally you'll want to update your signatures. There are two ways to do so:
Non-members: if you haven't registered for a free account on ToonSig, simply click on the menu item "update an existing signature", fill in your character information, and provide the password you used when you first created your character. While this is easy enough and doesn't require an account, there are distinct advantages to being a member.
Members: It's simple... log in to your dashboard, find the toon you want to update, and click the modify/update button that correlates to the toon you wish to update. You will be taken through the same process to update your signatures and have the option to change the style and the information on your signatures. If you don't have any toons associated with your account yet, adding toons to your account is fast and easy.
As long as you know the password you used, it's quick and easy. Click the link on your dashboard labeled "Add an existing signature", fill in the character info along with the password you used for that signature, and then click the "add sig" button. If the information you entered is correct and we have you in the database, your signature will be associated with that account. Easy!
If you're having problems, your password might be incorrect. Check the capslock key and ensure that you type your password in carefully.
ToonSig is documented to work in Firefox 2.0+, Internet Explorer 6.0+, Safari 3.0+, Google Chrome 1.0, Opera 10 (beta), and most features in the iPhone/iPod Touch browser. The only feature not working properly for the iPhone browser is the theme selection. We hope to resolve that at a later date.
ToonSig does not support other mobile devices and makes no warranties about supporting other lesser-popular browsers.
For the best performance, we suggest using either Firefox or Safari. You may experience some display inconsistencies with Internet Explorer, a browser which we publicly detest. In addition, some features may not work properly in Internet Explorer 7 because of their inadherence to general Document Object Model (DOM) standards as it applies to Javascript. We are working on solutions that will eventually work in most browser environments. But again, do yourself a favor and switch to Firefox.
Before reporting any problems, please visit the development and news updates page and look through the various version releases. Double-check that you're not reporting anything in the "known issues" lists. If it is not a currently known issue, please report the problem to support @ toonsig.com. Please include the following information:
Screen shots are helpful and encouraged if they will provide better details. The more information you provide, the better support we can give and will likely lead to an immediate patch release.
Nondescriptive support requests that offer no helpful details will be discarded.
With the recent huge crash of Ma.gnolia, I thought it prudent to put this little disclaimer here should ToonSig ever become too big for its britches. It's basically just two World of Warcraft enthusiasts running the show here, providing a service to other WoW gamers. Right now the service is free and we hope that one day ad revenue will help pay for the costs associated with bandwidth, storage space, and server upkeep.
We don't have a Ten-Year Strategy statement, no mission statement, no long-term vision for becoming the world's best WoW character signature generator. That said, as long as people keep using the service and popularity continues to grow and we have the energy and the resources to maintain it, we'll keep refining ToonSig to become better with each release.
If you want to help ToonSig succeed, spread the word about our service, advertise on ToonSig, and support our advertisers with a simple click-thru and read up on what they have to share with you.
Just two simple guys running a simple service.
You're a newb. Yep, you're a wet-bottomed, droopy-lipped newb. Next time you log into World of Warcraft, hit the "N" key and feast your eyes on what are called "talents". Choose your talents accordingly, regenereate your signature an hour or so after you've logged off WoW, and then report the issue if it persists. LOL, newb.
True story... we have a couple toons in our database that are about level 70 or higher and have yet to spend any talent points. LULZ.
